About Me

I was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and have been making jewelry since the 1980’s.  My studies include the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Penland School of Crafts in Ashville, NC as well as various workshops around the United States.  In 1989, after  finishing college, I established Cathy Poquette Designs in  Milwaukee.  Currently, my private studio is located in the Hill Country just North of San Antonio, Texas.

Artistic elements such as asymmetry, positive/negative space, repetition and opposition intrigue me. My fascination with these design elements adds a special uniqueness to my work and offers the wearer a piece of jewelry that is different, refined and classy.  Inspiration for my designs is found in nature as well as modern architecture. The flowing tentacles of a jellyfish, the spiral of a nautical shell or the repetition of windows on a skyscraper all find their way into my jewelry designs.

I create every piece of jewelry with no help from assistants. Each piece is fabricated by hand using sterling silver and is accented with 14kt gold.  Various metalsmithing techniques such as soldering & fusing are used in the creation process.  Surface enrichment is acheived with use of rolling mills and hand tools.  I'll set various gemstones such as opals, pearls and sapphires to give a piece a splash of color.  Finally, to make each piece sparkle and enhance its natural beauty, it is hand polished for a final finish.

My work can be found at Fine Arts and Craft shows and Fine Craft Galleries throughout the United States.  Please contact me for a schedule of my shows and gallery locations.
